A “CDL automatic restriction,” is a limitation placed on your CDL license, preventing you from operating vehicles with a manual transmission. This restriction is automatically added to your license if you took your CDL driving test in a vehicle with an automatic transmission. In essence, it means you are only authorized to operate vehicles with automatic transmissions. If you wish to remove the automatic restriction on CDL, you will need to retake the driving test in a manual vehicle.
